Our Fleet

A transport company is nothing without trucks and trailers capable of meeting a customers needs.

We are continuously investing in our fleet and most of fleet are euro 6 (35 of our 50 strong fleet of trucks are now euro 6). These are the most environmentally friendly diesel engines available. When investing in new trucks currently our most important issues are safety features, fuel economy and driver comfort. We have a plan where we also invest in new trailers every year which are specifically built for us to meet the demands of our customers to transport their product safely and efficiently.

We currently hold the Gold TruckSafe standard from the FTA (Freight Transport Association), along with this we are TASSC accredited. Our drivers are ADR, GDP certified and Air Cargo Security trained.

We are also ISO 9001:2015 certified

Maintenance is a major cost in transport operations and as we are involved in many different forms of transport we can clearly see the difference in costs between each type.

We have a new garage with a brake tester rolling road which will allow us to improve our maintenance capabilities further. The newer trucks are mostly dealer maintained and we have service contracts in place with over half the fleet as of now.

Niall Davis and Blagoja Boskovic have completed driver training, where they undertook in cab and in class tuition and are now certified to train all our other drivers in the most fuel efficient and safe driving techniques. This course involved 40 hours of training and these 2 drivers were chosen because of their own driving technique and their attitude towards improving and teaching others.

As the health and safety of our staff, our customers and other road users is our primary concern we will keep investing in training

All drivers have recently completed their 5th module in Driver CPC Course and in the past 12 months drivers have completed Safe Pass, Air Freight Transport Training module 13, First Aid Training, Digital and Analogue Tachograph Training and Manual Handling Training.

Aidan and I have completed Advanced Tachograph Analysis Training.

We are continuously looking to improve our service to customers and employee training is an important part of this.

We have developed our own SOP’s for all our different customer jobs and this is part of the induction process for new drivers and also signed off by existing drivers. We welcome feedback from our customers on this and will adjust to suit your specific needs.

When a new driver applies to work for Dungarvan Transport Ltd the following procedure is followed:

They are first assessed by our qualified driving instructor. If successful they are inducted, talk through our safety statement and our driver trainer go through our Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for every type of work, where applicable: Three points of contact, Coupling & Uncoupling of trailers, Dublin port, GSK, Glanbia Belview cream, Glanbia Belview skim, Glanbia Belview other products, Glanbia Ballyragget, Securing the load, Forestry Operational safety checks, Clean of timber trailers, Smartply, Medite, Glennons Bros, Roadside accident, Medite Haulier, Specialist Nutrition, Roadside accident haz load, Animal feed, Coillte Haulage Site Safety Rules. Our driver trainer spends a few days with all new drivers to make sure they are competent to carry out their daily duties.

  • ADR
  • Air Cargo Security Training
  • Safe Pass
